Autumn 2004 Edition...
Schneider Electric's Acquisition of Andover Controls — Investing
in Building Automation and Security for Top-Line
Revenue Growth...
Schneider Electric, a worldwide leader in electrical
distribution, power, and controls, announced on
July 15, 2004 that it had completed the
acquisition of Andover Controls from Balfour
Beatty, plc.
Schneider Electric, headquartered near Paris,
France, owns world-class brands such as Square D,
Telemechanique, and Merlin Gerin, and has yearly
revenues of over $11B. They have identified
Building Automation and Security as a major growth
area, and see Andover Controls as a key strategic fit.
Balfour Beatty plc, based in London, UK, had owned
Andover Controls since 1989. They recognized that
with the continued consolidation in the Building
Automation and Security industry, of which
Schneider Electric has been a major participant,
enhanced growth and value would be maximized through the decision to sell.
Andover Controls is not the first building
automation company purchased by Schneider; in
2003, Schneider purchased TAC AB, with major
operations in Malmo, Sweden; Dallas, Texas; and
Sydney, Australia. Andover will merge with TAC as
the foundation for Schneider Electric’s growth
platform to become a major player in the Building
Automation industry.
Customer Benefits
One immediate benefit will be access to a larger
range of highly complementary building automation
products from TAC and Schneider — variable speed
drives, lighting controls and smart breaker
panels, power monitoring devices, and touch screen
displays, among others — all tested and certified
for operation on the Continuum® building
automation system.
Our customers will benefit from advanced web-based
solutions, wireless technology breakthroughs,
continued industry leadership with both the BACnet
and LON open standards — focused development with
our customers’ needs in mind. The future looks
bright, especially for our customers. |

Andover Manufacturing Moves to North Andover...
Andover
Controls has moved its entire manufacturing
operation from their Brickstone Square, Andover,
Massachusetts location to the Schneider Electric
facility at 1 High Street in North Andover,
Massachusetts.
Andover’s recent acquisition by Schneider
Electric and subsequent merging with TAC AB,
another strong building automation company
recently acquired by Schneider, has allowed the
company to expand their production capabilities
and become part of the Andover/TAC North America
World Logistics Center.
The North Andover facility features greater square
footage and a purpose-built open floor plan on a
single level. Two new continuous flow printed
circuit board assembly lines, the system assembly
area, and the test area are laid out in a
straight-line configuration, providing a
streamlined and more efficient product
manufacturing process. The additional square
footage compared to their old facility will allow
the company to expand their production capabilities by
more than 30% in the near future.
Andover honored its commitment to its employees to
stay in the Merrimack Valley, so as to keep
disruptions in employees’ commutes to a minimum.
The new facility is just three miles from the old
facility.
